The School Motto
The beating heart of the school is captured in its noble motto: “EXCELSIOR” (AIM HIGHER)
Like an eagle stretching its wings toward the heavens, the girls of Immaculate Heart are exhorted to reach beyond the horizon, ever mindful that success is not served on a silver platter but earned with patience, discipline, devotion, perseverance, sacrifice, and unyielding optimism. As the proverb says, “The heights by great women reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” May The Almighty keep the school beyond the Jupiter planet.
The Mission
The mission of the school resounds with clarity: To provide Girls with Quality Education for their own Human Integral Development and Nation Building. It is both a torch and a compass, guiding students to be both builders of self and architects of society.
Leadership Over Time
Immaculate Heart has been shepherded by a lineage of visionary leaders. Each headmistress has been like a link in a golden chain, ensuring continuity of values and growth. These leaders have also left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. It was founded by His Lordship RT. Rev. Gervasius Nkalanga in 1969

Sr Kachope put up Nkalaga House for people to keep him our the school’s memory.

“The pioneering headmistresses, Sisters Louise and Magdalen, bequeathed to the school a noble culture and enduring values—pillars upon which successive leaders have faithfully walked in its statutes.”

Sr. Ghislaine Halley (RIP) steered the helm of leadership until 1975, leaving behind footprints of grace upon the sands of Immaculate’s history. In honor of her legacy, a dormitory bears her revered name, and to this day, prayers ascend like incense that her noble soul may continue to repose in the eternal peace of paradise.”

From 1976 to 1982, the mantle of leadership was nobly borne by Sr. Leonidas Tirikwendera, O.L.G.C.,

Her stewardship transformed the school into a veritable oasis of academic brilliance and disciplined virtue. Like a gardener tending a rare vineyard, she nurtured both mind and character, ensuring that excellence blossomed in every corner of Immaculate Heart. It was not a mere change of power, but a seamless and graceful handing over of the torch of values and principles when Sr. Leonidas entrusted the leadership to Sr. Veneranda Tibikimpenda (1982–1988).
In her era, the flame of character formation in the girl child continued to glow with undiminished brightness, a true portrayal that a house built on a firm foundation shall not be shaken.

During the stewardship of Sr. Margaret Magoba (1994–2001), Immaculate Heart Girls’ School spread its wings beyond the familiar hills, attracting students from far and wide. Under her watchful eye, the school’s beauty and reputation became like a city set on a hill that could not be hidden.
Her impact was so profound that the nation itself called her to serve in the Electoral Commission—a clear indicator of her integrity, incorruptible discipline, and moral uprightness. Truly, as the proverb goes, ‘a good tree is known by its fruit,’ and Sr. Magoba’s fruits remain treasured within the heritage of the school.

“From Sr. Magoba, the mantle passed to Sr. Petronila Ahikire (RIP), who led from 2001 to 2005. Her sudden departure while still in the seat of leadership struck like a sword piercing the heart, leaving staff, students, and parents alike in deep sorrow, reminiscent of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. The school and the country alike mourned the loss of a true shepherdess, yet her memory remains evergreen, and prayers rise that her noble soul may continue to rest in eternal peace.”

The years 2006 to 2024 marked a golden era under the admirable leadership of Sr. Mary Gladyce Kachope, whose name now shines in the annals of the school’s history. With vision as sharp as an eagle’s eye and hands steadfast on the plough, she transformed the school into an oasis of infrastructural beauty and a fountain of academic excellence, with professional staff and a student body exceeding three thousand. Together with her deputy, the disciplinarian and deeply religious Sr. Sabina Tumusiime, she wrought marvels that lifted the school onto the continental stage.
Her crowning glory came when she was honored as the Best Continental Head Teacher—a feather in her cap that spoke volumes about her diligence and devotion. Indeed, her legacy is carved in stone, for she raised the bar of Immaculate Heart to global acclaim, even organizing an educational comparative study trip to South Africa. Like the wise proverb says, ‘the work of the hands never lies,’ and her hands have left indelible marks.”

In 2025, the baton of leadership was gracefully handed to Sr. Sabina Tumusiime, whose steady hand and spiritual fervor had long been a force behind the school’s discipline and moral compass. Her leadership, though still in its dawn, already bears fruits worthy of admiration: the completion of Sr. Kachope’s great infrastructural projects, the construction of a perimeter wall encircling the school like a shield, standardisation of the school Museum and the spiritual enrichment of staff through a pilgrimage to Kibeho in Rwanda.

Sr. Sabina is, as the saying goes, ‘a chip off the old block,’ walking firmly in the footsteps of her mentors, yet writing her own story in golden ink. Passionately devoted to the moral upbringing of the girl child, she stands as both guardian and guide, a treasure whose worth will be weighed by generations to come.”

The Old Girls and the Gala
The Nyakibale Immaculate Heart Old Girls Association (NIHOGA) stands as a living testimony that “a child educated is a woman empowered, and a woman empowered is a nation transformed.”

Founded with the guidance of the school’s chaplains specifically Fr Rudi Lehnertz,

the association remains the bridge between past and present, teacher and alumna, mentor and mentee.
During the Glitz, Grace and Gratitude Gala, NIHOGA gathered to honor the legacy and fabric of leadership woven over the years. The outgoing headmistress, Sr. Mary Gladyce Kachope, and the incoming headmistress, Sr. Sabina Tumusiime, were celebrated alongside other stalwart leaders like Sr. Margaret Magoba. Gifts were shared, blessings were invoked, and memories were rekindled like glowing embers.

The climax was the sharing of a cake—a sweet symbol of unity, gratitude, and sisterhood.
Indeed, as iron sharpens iron, so one woman sharpens another. Immaculate Heart remains a fountain of light, a garden of virtue, and a national treasure whose daughters continue to roar like lionesses across the spheres of duty and destiny. May heaven’s choicest blessings rain ceaselessly upon her.
