Immaculate Heart Girls’ School Honoured Holy Week with Heartfelt Harmony and Humble Almsgiving as it continued to stand tall as a beacon of moral strength and spiritual vitality. The school still tells a compelling story of grit and glory in nurturing the purity of hearts and minds within its community. The school remains deeply rooted in values that bind its members together and draw them ever closer to God, for indeed, “where there is unity of purpose, there is victory.”
This year’s Easter celebrations were accorded the profound reverence they deserve. The Lenten season, which commenced with Ash Wednesday and culminated in Palm Sunday, was observed with remarkable devotion and discipline. It was a period marked by reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal.
At the heart of this vibrant spiritual life is the devoted school chaplain, Rev. Fr. Mugabe Cleophas, whose presence is truly a blessing. With pastoral zeal, he continually guides the community in matters of faith, especially in the worthy reception of the sacraments that unite humanity with the Divine. He has gone above and beyond in organizing pilgrimages to sacred places such as Kibeho in Rwanda and the Uganda Martyrs Shrine at Namugongo in Kampala. Through his tireless service, all religious activities in the school are diligently fulfilled. Truly, great things happen when God walks with man.
The spiritual rhythm of the school is enriched through the observance of Lauds and Vespers, while Holy Mass is celebrated twice weekly. All feasts and solemnities are honored with dignity. Religious movements are well guided, and doctrines are made accessible to the community. Students are carefully instructed in the essence of prayer, the love of God, and the deeper meaning of fasting and almsgiving.
Results Celebration & Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday this year was uniquely preceded by the celebration of the 2025 UCE and UACE results. Stakeholders, including the Old Girls under the umbrella of NIHOGA, graced the occasion. Retired teachers and outstanding students were recognized and rewarded with gifts, dummy cheques, and other tokens of appreciation. Teachers Priscilla, Emmanuel, and Gertrude, who retired that same year, were duly honored for their dedicated service. As the saying goes, “a good name is better than riches.”
In a bid to ensure inclusivity, the chaplaincy ensured that all events, both liturgical and celebratory, were live-streamed, allowing distant members of the community to participate virtually.
Palm Sunday itself marked the beginning of Holy Week with a grand procession from the school grounds to the magnificent chapel, reminiscent of Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. On this occasion, the school unveiled its new academic theme: “Levelling Up for Academic Performance.” Students solemnly pledged before the chaplain to strive toward its realization.
The Old Girls demonstrated profound affection and solidarity by organizing a joyful celebration for the students. They offered a bull for roasting, engaged in a vibrant cow dance, and later presented a rich talk package. The students were filled with immense joy and gained valuable life lessons on self-worth, gratitude, and living as dignified young women of substance.
Holy Week Activities
Monday: The following Monday witnessed the successful launch of the Inter-Colour Music, Dance, Drama, and Extravaganza on the main pitch. Colour patrons, administrators, and staff were present as students enthusiastically embraced the event.
The syllabus for the competition was unveiled, featuring set pieces, poetry, speech, traditional songs and dances, Afro-contemporary dance, skits, and fashion showcases. Rehearsals commenced immediately, setting the stage for excellence.
Holy Tuesday: Holy Tuesday was dedicated to acts of charity. Students and teachers generously contributed items for almsgiving as a sign of love and compassion. Over eight million shillings were collected during the thanksgiving Mass, alongside numerous material donations, reflecting the spirit that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Holy Wednesday: Holy Wednesday focused on penance, led by the chaplain, alongside student skits that reinforced the message of repentance. Preparations were made for outreach visits to neighboring communities, including villages, schools, prisons, and orphanages.
This annual act of charity remains a cornerstone of the school’s spiritual life, as many believe it is the source of the institution’s abundant blessings.
Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday): Holy Thursday was observed with deep reverence. It commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist, Priesthood, and Reconciliation. The symbolic washing of feet, performed by the chaplain, served as a powerful reminder that true leadership lies in humble service.
Students actively participated in Holy Week activities, including the preparation and visitation of the Garden of Gethsemane, as well as dramatizations and hymns that brought the Passion narrative to life.
Good Friday: Good Friday, a day of solemn reflection, was deeply honored. The community undertook the Way of the Cross, meditating on Christ’s suffering.
This was followed by the veneration of the cross in silence, fostering a profound spiritual atmosphere. In the evening, students watched The Passion of Christ, which further immersed them in the mystery of redemption and inspired a renewed commitment to reject sin.
Holy Saturday: Holy Saturday was marked by both spiritual and practical preparation. Student leaders led a comprehensive cleaning exercise across the school, demonstrating exemplary standards of sanitation, while rehearsals continued.
The Easter Vigil began with a solemn fire ceremony, followed by a candlelit procession. The liturgy culminated in the triumphant proclamation of Christ’s resurrection, as the entire congregation rejoiced in the light of Christ.
Easter Sunday & Monday
Easter Sunday: Easter Sunday Mass was celebrated with great jubilation. The community rejoiced in the victory of life over death, followed by a festive meal and continued rehearsals.
Easter Monday – Drama Competition: Easter Monday began with the Drama competition. The Deputy Headmistress, Sr. Naturinda Grace, encouraged students to continue shining through their talents.
The morning performances were impressive, setting a competitive tone for the day.
Poetry and speech were delivered with clarity and depth, reflecting thoughtful interpretation of themes.
Traditional folk songs portrayed meaningful aspects of life such as work, celebration, and community.
The fashion segment showcased creativity across cultural, professional, graduation, dinner, and creative wear categories.
Traditional and Afro-contemporary dances were presented with remarkable skill, reflecting rich cultural diversity.
Afro-contemporary dance stood out as the highlight, captivating the audience with innovation and energy.
Conclusion
The Guest of Honour delivered an insightful address, emphasizing the role of Music, Dance, and Drama in nurturing talent and shaping future opportunities. Awards were presented, and the winning colours were announced.
At the summit of the show, the National MDD panel of adjudicators—renowned for their keen artistic judgment, highly commended the school for its outstanding discipline, coordination, and stage mastery.
Special appreciation was extended to the administration, under the inspiring leadership of Sister Tumusiime Sabina, for her total commitment to nurturing and refining the students’ talents into brilliance.
The colours dazzled and competed with passion, rhythm, and creativity, emerging in the following order:
