From the classrooms of Immaculate Heart Girls’ School to the commanding seat of a commercial aircraft, Rita Nasirumbi’s remarkable ascent is a compelling portrayal of the power of academic excellence, discipline, determination and audacious ambition.
Immaculate Heart Girls’ School, Nyakibale, proudly congratulates its distinguished Old Girl, Captain Rita Nasirumbi, upon her historic promotion to captain at Uganda Airlines, making her the national carrier’s first female captain. This landmark achievement, announced on 13 October 2026, places her among the pioneering women redefining the frontiers of Uganda’s aviation industry.
A holder of advanced education from Immaculate Heart Girls’ School, Rita distinguished herself through remarkable academic prowess, exemplary discipline and an admirable sense of purpose. Her intellectual promise and conduct earned her the admiration of the school community, even as she pursued ambitions that have now taken her to extraordinary heights. Today, earning her fourth stripe, she assumes command of the airline’s Mitsubishi CRJ900 regional jets as pilot-in-command.

Her journey, which has grown alongside Uganda Airlines since its commercial revival in 2019, is more than an individual triumph; it is a powerful statement that the cockpit, like every other sphere of professional excellence, has room for women of competence, courage and conviction.
To the young ladies of Immaculate Heart, Captain Rita’s story is a living lesson in possibility: the sky is not the limit when preparation meets purpose and ambition is anchored in discipline. We particularly celebrate Viola, Shanice and other Immac girls pursuing aviation careers. May God guide their aspirations, strengthen their resolve and grant them the grace to follow this illustrious path to even greater heights.
Captain Rita, you have not merely earned four stripes; you have etched your name into the annals of Uganda’s aviation history and expanded the horizons of generations of girls yet to come. Your alma mater celebrates you with immense pride. May your flights be safe, your leadership exemplary and your horizons ever-expanding.
Excelsior! For God and My Country.
